Computer Basics for Kupuna – Presented by DOH & Executive Office on Aging (EOA)

Hello KapCC Employees,

The Department of Health, Executive Office on Aging (EOA) would like to present their first issue of Computer Basics for Kupuna. This project is intended to provide a beginner-level, illustrated overview about computers and technology. Some important information from this issue contains definitions about common “Tech Talk” terms, what to consider when purchasing equipment, tips for safe online use to avoid scams, and more. This multi-year project will extend through 2024 and culminate in a series of informational brochures from beginner to advanced levels that are specifically focused on helping Hawaii’s kupuna prepare for future Public Health Emergencies (PHE), including the unwinding of the COVID-19 PHE, and stay healthy, informed, and safe online.

EOA, through its volunteer programs, is committed to providing informational tools and support to help kupuna connect with much needed services to prepare themselves for the future. Please help us distribute Computer Basics for Kupuna to your network of family, friends, and partners.

Homebuying and Financial Wellness Resources From Landed for UH Employees (Upcoming Webinars & More)

Landed and the University of Hawaii have partnered together to assist eligible employees with down payments and other homebuying support. As of May 2022, Landed has helped 49 UH employees become homeowners. In addition to providing homebuyer education and resources, Landed helps essential professionals purchase homes by providing up to $120,000 toward a down payment through shared equity down payment program and by connecting employees to tailored homebuying resources. Landed will be hosting two financial wellness webinars this June called “Empowered Homebuying: Financial Steps to Take Now to be a Buyer Soon”. National Benefit Services 403(b) – “Understanding Your Retirement” Quarterly Workshop

National Benefit Services (NBS) will be conducting a seminar on the 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity Program, called “Understanding your Retirement” on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm and will be covering the following:

  • Social Security and ERS Basics

  • How a 403(b) plays into your retirement income

  • Overcoming the Retirement Income Gap

The seminar will be overseen by NBS and be presented by local certified educators Alexander Lau and Jeff White.   • All faculty, staff, and student employees (including casual and 89-day hires) are eligible to participate in the 403(b) retirement plan

EUTF Duplicate After-Tax Deductions Corrected for the May 20, 2022 Pay Date

Note: This message is only intended for employees who are employed in a position working “20 or more hours per week and for at least 3 months” and are enrolled in the EUTF health benefits plan.
 
The university was notified by Hawaii Information Portal (HIP) Service Center, that some employees were inadvertently double deducted for their after-tax medical deductions on May 20, 2022 paychecks. This was due to an oversight by both EUTF and HIP in the processing of a new file as they recently transitioned to a new system. They have identified all the employees affected and processed off-cycle checks on May 18, 2022, to refund the duplicate deductions back to the employees. These refunds will be paid via direct deposit on May 20, 2022 pay date. If any affected employees are not enrolled in direct deposit, the UH Payroll department will send out the refund checks once they receive them. 
 
HIP has canceled the duplicate deductions for all employees in their system to prevent this from happening again and apologized for any inconvenience this may cause. Please note that not all employees were impacted, however, we are providing this notification so that you are aware of this issue and can check your pay statement.
 
To summarize: You may notice a duplicate after-tax medical deduction on your May 20, 2022 paycheck and those affected employees will receive a refund check via direct deposit or paper check. KapCC HR strongly encourages everyone to regularly check their pay statement. To view your paycheck or pay statement: go to ps.hawaii.edu (UH VPN required if teleworking) > click on Hawaii Information Portal (HIP) > Click on pay statement.

Reminder: 2022 EUTF Open Enrollment Ends on May 13, 2022

Open Enrollment deadline for Hawaii Employer-Union Health Benefits Trust Fund (EUTF) is this Friday, May 13, 2022.

Open Enrollment is the only time you can make changes to your health coverage without experiencing a qualifying event (i.e. birth of child, marriage..etc). If you would like to make changes to your current plans, complete and submit the EC-1 enrollment form by clicking here, along with supporting documentation and submit them to HR via UH Filedrop by the deadline. Any forms submitted after the deadline will not be accepted by EUTF. A checklist of the supporting documentation along with important dates can be found here.

2022 General Ethics Training for State Employees (Zoom)

The Hawaii State Ethics Commission is pleased to offer upcoming ethics training classes for all state employees on the following dates:

Note: Please mention “Kapiolani Community College as Division when registering 

The training is mandatory for E&Ms and highly recommended for supervisors. If you are supervising student employees, please consider attending this training. Please send the certificate of completion to the HR department for your employee file via email (kapcchr@hawaii.edu)

These classes will meet the mandatory ethics training requirement currently being considered by Governor David Ige. Additionally, state employees can take an online self-directed training course at https://ethics.hawaii.gov/ethicsonlinetraining/. This 30-minute interactive training provides basic information for state employees subject to the Ethics Code, including all executive and legislative branch employees, and judiciary employees (other than judges and justices). Individuals who complete the training will obtain a certificate of completion that satisfies state ethics training requirements.

EUTF Employee Health Benefits Reference Guide

Disclaimer: Employees who are employed in a position working “20 or more hours per week and for at least 3 months” and are enrolled in EUTF health benefits plan.

The Hawaii Employer-Union Health Benefits Trust Fund (EUTF) has released an Employee Health Benefits Reference Guide. The reference guide will provide important information on EUTF health benefits plans available to most active employees for the July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023 plan year.

Hawaii SHIP – FREE Virtual Presentations in May

Hawaii State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) invites you, your stakeholders and loved ones to a free, virtual presentation called Project Grad 65. This presentation is designed for individuals turning 65 and “graduating” into Medicare to prepare them for their Initial Enrollment Period.

  • Project Grad 65 on Monday, May 9, 2022 11am-1pm. This event is for people turning 65 to prepare for their initial enrollment into Medicare. Social Security will talk about social security benefits followed by Hawaii SHip who will provide basic information on Medicare. To register click here
