Motorists can anticipate traffic delays around the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa campus next week, as approximately 3,500 students move into campus residence halls August 19–21 and 23. Move-in activities will start at 8 a.m. on all days, and student residents are asked to arrive at their assigned scheduled check-in time period to prevent traffic delays.
On August 19, student residents will be moving into the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center located just across University Avenue from campus. Heavier than normal traffic is expected on University Avenue and Metcalf Street.
On August 20, 21 and 23, student housing residents and their families will proceed to the Zone 20 parking structure and will be directed to check-in at the Stan Sheriff Center. There are no parking restrictions for Zone 20 pass holders. Motorists are advised to be especially vigilant along Dole Street due to increased traffic activity and frequent stopping or slowing of cars. On August 21, the right traffic lane on Dole Street will be closed from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. to support residents moving into Johnson Hall. On August 20, 21 and 23, additional vehicles will be exiting onto Dole Street near Frear Hall after the drop-off. HPD will be present at both locations to help direct traffic and facilitate the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
