Get With the Beat…

Resonate with the rhythmic vibrations from Kenny Endo’s Taiko Ensemble as they perform for the Kū Pūnāwai Series Kickoff on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in front of Kapiʻolani Community College’s Cafeteria. Faculty, staff, students, administrators, and guests are welcome. A program, which includes an Oli and remarks by Vice-Chancellor Nawaʻa Napoleon and Chancellor Misaki Takabayashi, will precede the Taiko performance.

The new Kū Pūnāwai Series consists of several courses that focus on health and wellness. Taiko – the correlation between rhythmic drum vibrations and how they align energy centers, reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and increase immunity has been recognized by cultures worldwide for centuries. Hula – is a course that provides health benefits by strengthening the core, arms, thighs, and heart. Likewise, Hula strengthens cultural identity and mental well-being by animating Hawaiian history, genealogy, prophecy, and ancestral tales.  Another course, Tai Chi, is an ancient practice of slow, purposeful movements and breathing which align body and mind. Research shows that by energizing and balancing the body’s chi, overall muscle strength, joint health, flexibility, balance, and coordination are improved.

In addition to the previous examples, other courses such as Oli Workshops, Meatless Cuisine for Health and Wellness, Zumba, Ikebana, Qi Gong, Yoga and Meditation, Forest Walk, and a Winter Wellness: Harmony of Mind, Body and Spirit Workshop, are scheduled. Some classes are free and others are subsidized. If you are interested, please come to the Kū Pūnāwai Series Kickoff on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. A brochure will be available or click on this link.
