Applications are now open for the 2025 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. This funded program offers an intensive summer language and cultural immersion experience abroad in Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, and more! Eligibility: Be a U.S. citizen or national at the time of application. Be at least 18 years old by May 15, 2025. Be enrolled.
Deadline to Apply: November 19, 2024 (8:00 PM EST)
What is CLS?
- CLS is a U.S. Department of State program for undergrads and grads.
- Spend 8-10 weeks in summer learning critical languages essential for U.S. engagement.
- Languages offered: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.
CLS Spark: Virtual Language Option
- New this year! CLS Spark offers virtual beginner-level Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian for undergrads.
- Perfect for those without on-campus language options or ability to study abroad.
