The Paul S. Honda International Center welcomes Kapi’olani CC students to Study Abroad at Otemon Gakuin University in Osaka, Japan, for the Fall 2024 Semester!

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Hawai’i Resident
  • US Citizen
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA

Academic Overview: ①Japan Program: (Credit-bearing/2 credits) 5 subjects are taught in English each semester, focusing on several facets of Japan ranging from Culture, Literature, to Business, and Society. <Requirement>For students who are not native English speakers, level of language proficiency in English must be equivalent to TOEIC 600/TOEFL iBT48/IELTS4.5 or above. ②Japanese Language (Credit-bearing/1 credit) N3, N2, or N1 holders only  Intermediate-Japanese Reading and Listening Comprehension <Requirement> N3 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). *Need to submit the JLPT certificate.  Advanced-Japanese Reading and Listening Comprehension <Requirement> N2 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) *Need to submit the JLPT certificate. ③Subjects from University Faculties (Credit-bearing/2 credits) N2 or N1 holders only *Generally, lecture subjects at undergrad programs are available to exchange students. Subjects, however, including but not limited to those associated with Teacher Training Certification in Japan, are not open to exchange students. *During the registration process, matriculated students have priority over exchange students. Short-term Job Experience Program Job Experience during summer/spring break. <Requirement>…N2/N1 holders only/ must pass a job interview in Japanese. Program offers the opportunity to participate in work experience program during the summer or spring break and earn credits; the opportunity is only available to exchange students who participate in the exchange program for two consecutive semesters at OIDAI. *This does not mean OIDAI guarantees the allocation of job opportunities. It is the student’s responsibility to apply for job posts and go through screening processes by the employer. Extra- Curriculum ④Japanese Language Courses: (Non-Credit-bearing) Three levels of courses are prepared, and attentive instruction is provided in small classes from Beginner, Elementary through Intermediate. Classes are conducted daily on weekdays, with 127.75 hours of instruction per semester for each level.
