JAWS, Job Access With Speech, is a screen reader, developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse. JAWS provides speech and Braille output for the most popular computer applications on your PC. With the software, you will be able to navigate the Internet, write a document, read an email, and create presentations from your office, remote desktop, or from home.
The University has partnered with JAWS and is downloadable for all employees. We encourage everyone to download JAWS on their work computers. Here is the link to download JAWS for UH-Owned computers.
If you have questions on how to install, navigate, or operate JAW, UH ITS has provided resources for new users which can be viewed here. Other information provided can be found on this website: www.freedomscientific.com/products/software/jaws.
We have a training session available for those who would like to attend. The training will be broken up into 3 sessions of 2 hours per session. The agenda is attached, and the dates are as follows:
- Wednesday, 8/7, 8am – 10am
- Thursday, 8/8, 8am – 10am
- Friday, 8/9, 8am – 10am
If you wish to attend, RSVP here.
Feel free to share this with others in your group who may be interested. The vendor also said they could provide us with a recording of the sessions for those who are unable to attend. Once I have the recording, I will send it out to CAC ListServ.
