The Paul S. Honda International Center welcomes Kapi’olani CC students, faculty and staff to Study Abroad Ireland!
Ireland’s island history can be seen all over its landscape and seascape, from the dramatic Wild Atlantic Way, to the sacred tombs of the ancients, the forts of the tribal chieftains, and the castles of the colonizers. This trip is a chance to see it all in person, and learn about the people and places that shaped its past. This study abroad opportunity to Ireland explores how environment, culture and history have shaped indigenous and post-colonial Irish culture. There are many narratives shared with Hawai’i, including sustainability and fascinating comparisons with native language, music, rituals, customs and traditions.
Tentative Highlights includes:
• Field trips associated with mythology, history, literature and language, led by expert local guides
• Travel to Ireland’s famous Wild Atlantic Way and spend time in Ireland’s capital city Dublin.
• Visit Ireland’s Gaelic-speaking offshore islands
• Opportunities to sample fabulous food at local restaurants, hear Irish traditional music, and see Irish movies and art.
• Study fascinating parallels between Hawaii’s and Ireland’s histories as island nations and issues surrounding civil rights struggles, social justice issues, cultural identity, and much more.
