Title: Ke Awalau o Pu‘uloa to Pearl Harbor: Narratives of Transformation and Resistance

Speaker: Kyle Kajihiro is an educator and activist specializing in the social, political, and environmental impacts of US militarization in Hawai‘i and the Pacific. He teaches in the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and has been actively involved in community-based efforts to challenge militarism and promote sustainable futures.

In his talk, he will explore the historical transformation of Ke Awalau o Pu‘uloa into what is now known as Pearl Harbor. Kajihiro explores the environmental, cultural, and political impacts of U.S. militarization on this site in Hawai‘i. He will discuss the struggles over the meaning of this site and its connection to broader issues of militarism, Indigenous resistance, and environmental justice.
