The I HEART Kapi’olani CC brain children is a small group of student centered, community minded creatives who are constantly exploring ways to bring people together – that group includes Colette “Aunty Coco” Andrade Fujii, Lisa Yamamoto, myself. However, after every I HEART Kapi’olani CC event (and this would be our third), it always humbles us to see how it truly takes a village of selfless, compassionate, patient, and out-of-the-box thinkers to make this event work for our students and our community.
Below is a list of folks who made this year’s I HEART Kapi’olani Community College another successful event, bringing people back to campus, talking to each other, and building a strong campus community.
The ENTIRE Library team; the ENTIRE Auxiliary Services Team; Wanda Mita; CELTT; Wayne Fredricks and the security team; Lavache Scanlan and her Lunalilo Scholars and Peer Mentors; the Math and Science and STEM team; the Health Science team; Sarah Bremser, Carl Jennings and the ART team; Monty Clark (EPC); the ENTIRE HR team; Ratana Kim and OSL team; Emily Moody (NMA); Calvin Tan and BLT; Dave Evans and HOST; Maegen Walker (PSY); Shawn Ford (SLT); Shawn Yacavone and HIC; Elaina Malm (International Cafe); Angela Coloretti McGough (Kapo’oloku); Ana Bravo (Kulia Ma Kapi’olani); Miku Lenentine (CERENE); Carin Tamayo and Dyan Kaneshiro from TRIO; Tony Silva (Liberal Arts); Shauna Sibonga (Ka’ie’ie); Lori Maehara (Culinary Arts); Justin Toombs (HiNET); Debralee Goto and her Bookstore team; Tre Zamora (Marketing).
Then there are the community partners who made time out of their workday to be part of this event.
Oliver Kim & Skye Kaupiko (KapCC grad) from Oli’s Kitchen, Justin Udom (KapCC grad) from Pop Culture Artisan Pops, Chef David Lukela (KapCC grad and former KapCC faculty) from Slice by HB Baking, the Endos from the Taiko Center of the Pacific, Alex Sosa (KapCC grad) and the KTUH team, Jacky Chen from UHFCU, Ray de Vega from the Office of Elections, and Ken Takemura (KapCC grad) from the Army National Guard.
Also HUGE thank you to the ELT for giving us the green light (a Wo Learning Champion reference) to make this happen, and Maile Au from the University of Hawai’i Alumni Association for always listening to my ideas and frustrations.
I am certain and I forgot someone but it doesn’t mean you are not appreciated.
I HEART Kapiʻolani is a constant work in progress. I had some conversations throughout the day about moving the time to maximize everyoneʻs time and resources. Anyway, please click HERE to share your comments and insights.
Thank you!!
