Student Congress participated in a press conference on Friday, January 26th at the Capitol Rotunda with the other bills that are being supported by the Keiki Caucus. Our bill is being supported by Representative Amy Perruso, Chair of the House Committee on Higher Education.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! We are alerting folks now, so you have about a week to craft a statement for written testimony about the positive impact that lowering summer tuition can have on student needs.

Please review HB 1779 and once “notice” is officially announced on February 5th, anyone can submit written testimony. Guidance on how to do that will be distributed via email and news.kapiolani.hawaii.edu, but for now, people can start to draft written testimony about the personal impact summer tuition has onstudents. Representative Perruso suggests not more than a page, and legislators really respond to personal stories/impact.

Our next bill hearing will be with the House Committee on Higher Education, on February 7th from 2-6 PM at the Capitol Building.

There is a more detailed email circulating about this topic, so if you have not received it, please email kapccsc@hawaii.edu and they can forward it to you. Please circulate this across to your UHCC colleagues. Thank you!
