Need a Tampon or Pad? It’s Free!

Since 2017 the Alpha Kappa Psi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society with the help of Student Congress has provided free menstrual products in restrooms on campus.  The program is a student initiative in that Honor Society dues and student fees purchase all of the tampons and pads and students monitor and restock the dispensers and are responsible for all signage.  The UH system does not provide financial support for this program nor do they provide the staff to monitor and restock products like is done with other restroom necessities such as toilet paper and paper towels.

Through grants that the Honor Society advisor, Professor Julie Rancilio, has received there are now seven one-touch dispensers on campus.  We hope to be able to add three more in the near future.

You can find free menstrual products on campus in restrooms in the following buildings.

  1. ‘Iliahi (1st floor next to the Honda International Center)
  2. ‘Ilima Gender-neutral restroom (2nd Floor)
  3. Kopiko (across from room 101B)
  4. Lama Library (1st floor)
  5. Mānele
  6. Ohia Cafeteria (2nd floor across from 220 Grille)
  7. Olapa (2nd floor)
  8. Lē‘ahi Hospital (near the classroom used by KapCC)

Please take only what you need, so there is enough for everyone.  If you find a dispenser empty, email kcchonor@hawaii.edu and we will restock it.
