### Information on the Critical Language Scholarship Program ###

The Critical Language Scholarship Program is accepting applications for study abroad opportunities in Summer 2023. The application deadline is Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. HST.

CLS funds study abroad for languages taught at Kapiā€˜olani, although some will require prior study as a prerequisite.

  • CHINESE ā€¢ Intermediate: Minimum requirement: completion of two years of college-level Chinese, or its equivalent, prior to the start of the program. ā€¢ Advanced: Minimum requirement: completion of three years of college-level Chinese, or its equivalent, prior to the start of the program.
  • JAPANESE ā€¢ Intermediate: Minimum requirement: completion of two years of college-level Japanese, or its equivalent, prior to the start of the program. ā€¢ Advanced: Minimum requirement: completion of three years of college-level Japanese, or its equivalent, prior to the start of the program.
  • KOREAN ā€¢ Advanced Beginning: Minimum requirement: completion of one year of college-level Korean, or its equivalent, prior to the start of the program. ā€¢ Intermediate: Minimum requirement: completion of two years of college-level Korean, or its equivalent, prior to the start of the program. ā€¢ Advanced: Minimum requirement: completion of three years of college-level Korean, or its equivalent, prior to the start of the program.

No prior experience is required for Urdu, Swahili, Turkish, Punjabi, Persian, Indonesian, Hindi, Bangla, and Azerbaijani.
