In a span of one month, this campus welcomed over 500 prospective students ranging from 6th grade to graduating seniors. You all engaged students from August Ahrens Elementary (Waipahu), Kalākaua Middle School (Kalihi), Kaimukī Middle School (Kaimukī), ʻAiea High School (ʻAiea), Hanalani School (Mililani), Kaimukī High School (Kaimukī), Kaiser High School (Hawaiʻi Kai), Kalani High School (Hawaiʻi Kai), Leilehua High School (Wahiawā), and Myron B. Thompson (Honolulu) to name a few. Many of them have never stepped foot on a college campus and some students shared at the beginning of the tour that college was not for them – well, you all changed that. Alfie and I received nothing but positive feedback from the respective teachers and chaperons. They appreciated the positive energy and passion that was displayed from both the presenters and the tour guides. There were students who did not want to leave and most that wanted to come back. In a perfect world, we hope these students will join the Kapiʻolani Community College ʻohana after high school but at the end of the day our hearts are filled knowing these students see the endless possibilities that is ahead of them – and this is because of all of you. On behalf of the Kuilei Outreach Program, thank you so much for the sacrifices you all make to inspire our youth. It means the world to us.
