Testing Center: Service Updates for Summer and Fall 2022

Due to a 250% increase in DCO and hybrid classes, the Testing Center is concerned about our capacity to meet everyone’s expectations for testing. In consultation with the VCAA and on a trial basis, for Summer and Fall 2022, the Testing Center will offer the following services for Kapiʻolani CC classes and Kapiʻolani CC students taking classes at other campuses.  All tests are conducted in-person and by appointment only. The Testing Center does not support remote proctoring. With the uncertainties of the pandemic, we recommend having a backup assessment plan in place.

For Placement/Qualifying Tests:

  • Placement Testing (ACCUPLACER and Foreign Languages)

  • ATI TEAS

For Academic Tests, supported test types are listed by class modality:

Face-to-Face (F2F):

  • Online tests only (Laulima, Pearson, etc)

  • Make Up Tests (online and paper tests)

  • Students with testing accommodations (online and paper tests)

Hybrid:

  • Online and Paper Tests

  • Make Up Tests (online and paper tests)

  • Students with testing accommodations (online and paper tests)

Any form of Distance Education, including DCO (Distance-Completely Online)*, DTV (Distance-Cable TV), DIV (Distance-Interactive Video):

  • Make Up Tests (online and paper tests)

  • Students with testing accommodations (online and paper tests).

*Per University of Hawaiʻi system memo, May 7, 2021, subject: Instructional Method Codes, for DCO classes the “student is never required to visit campus or a UH site (e.g. for testing…)”.

If you have any questions, please contact Sunny Pai at sunyeen@hawaii.edu or visit the Testing Center website.

Online Proctoring Demos TODAY (Fri 2/23)

Online proctoring allows students to take proctored and monitored exams from the comfort of their own homes. It’s especially useful for students who are taking online classes that require proctored exams but who live far from campus, and for students who are unable to come to campus because of mobility limitations or other disabilities. As we expand our online offerings at Kapi‘olani, we are considering online proctoring services offered by outside vendors.

Come to Naio 203 today (Friday 2/23/18) at 2:00 – 4:00 pm to watch demos provided by two vendors of online proctoring:

At 2:00 – 2:45 pm, we’ll see a demo by ProctorU, followed by a 15 minute “just us” debrief and discussion.

At 3:00 – 3:45 pm, well see a demo by examity, followed by a 15 minute “just us” debrief and discussion.

To learn more about online proctoring, visit our Kapi‘olani CC Online Yammer site. Jimmy Shimabukuro has curated and provided links to some great sources of information, and visiting the site will also allow for a digital discussion. All faculty and staff are welcome at the site.

Please join us to learn about the online proctoring services offered by these vendors, to ask questions, and to provide your perspective.
