Congratulations to Linda Duong, extramural programs specialist, for serving on a selection panelist for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program! Linda was selected by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) through a nationwide search for selection panelists for the Gilman scholarship and completed a rigorous training as a prerequisite for this appointment.
We are grateful for the expertise Linda gained through this experience to better advise Kapiolani students who are interested in pursuing study abroad and global internship programs. Overall, for the 2023-2024 academic year, the Gilman Program will provide approximately 3,000 exceptional U.S. undergraduate students with funding to support their participation in a multitude of exciting and educational study abroad programs and international internships. These Gilman Scholars will share American culture and values and learn the languages and cultures, while bringing that knowledge back to campuses and communities across the United States.
The Gilman Program supports American undergraduate students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad and, since 2001, has enabled more than 41,000 outstanding Americans of diverse backgrounds to engage in a meaningful educational experience abroad in 160 countries. The Gilman Program contributes to our national security and economic prosperity by successfully broadening U.S. participation in study abroad and emphasizing countries and regions where fewer Americans traditionally study.
Thanks to Linda, Kapiolani Community College was represented during the recent Gilman Program selection panels and supported a broader goal of diversifying and expanding study abroad and international internship opportunities.
