The Service & Sustainability Learning Program is currently taking appointments through our Health Promotion Team.   They will be out an about recruiting donors, but you can also schedule your own donation time with this appointment link or call the Blood Bank at (808) 848-4770 to make one.  If you are on campus and would like to make an appointment, you can stop by our office in ‘Iliahi 117/118.

Walk-in appointments are also welcome.  Please make sure that you have a valid picture ID that shows your date of birth.  In the days prior to your donation, stay hydrated, rest well, and try to increase iron levels in your body by eating foods containing this important mineral, including lentils, dark leafy greens (kale, spinach, collard greens, choi sum), foods fortified with iron, organ meats, clams, and other types of beans–it’s also a good idea to accompany these foods with sources of vitamin C to help with your body’s absorption of the iron.

The Blood Bank recently changed its requirements for donating, make this simple process much more accessible to people who previously may have been restricted from donating for various reasons including tattoos, piercings and medications.  See this link for information about Who Can Donate.

Did you know?
Only 2% of the population in Hawai’i donates blood, though more than half of our population will have a critical need for donated blood at some point in our lives.  Just one hour of your time can save three lives… so donors truly are heroes.
